Abstract :
Rapid technological advances are leading us toward the advancement of greater ship autonomy and automation, and toward new professions. The MASS operator is responsible for the proper navigation of a ship remotely, whether from land or from another vessel. First, this article informs the reader about the role of an operator and details the instruments they work with daily, as well as the current technical and administrative limitations of their profession. Then, an analysis of the daily tasks and challenges of their work environment leads us to the skills, knowledge, and qualifications required to practice this profession, enabling us to develop appropriate training.
