Abstract
This thesis provides an exploration of carbon capture and storage technology in the maritime industry, focusing on basic techniques, operational implications and legal frameworks. The adaptability of CCS technologies on ships and their integration into maritime operations are examined. The discussion extends to emissions control and compliance with international regulations such as Marpol Annex VI. and it assesses the legislative and policy frameworks that influence CCS, focusing on the contributions of international institutions. It also addresses scientific concerns about the benefits and impacts of CCS technology on the environment, calling for in-depth assessments of technical efficiency and resource management. The advancement of this technology will require sustained research and development and significant commercial deployment, supported by government energy transition policies that limit CO2 emissions to promote market viability and ensure the sustainability of the maritime industry.

Keywords: Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), Marine Industry, Oxy-fuel Combustion, Postcombustion Capture, Pre-combustion Capture, Emissions Control, Policy Frameworks, Environmental Impact, Technological Adaptability.
