Abstract
This thesis investigates various wave energy converters to subsequently combine the gathered information and apply it in the design of a model. After conducting a literature review, I developed a model using the OpenSCAD program. With the feedback from captain Jacobs, I refined this model into a more efficient Wave Energy Converter (WEC).
For the experimental setup, the wave energy converter is placed in a water basin and anchored to it via two points. Waves are then generated in the basin, causing the wave energy converter to start moving.
Additionally, research was conducted on efficient power take-off units (PTOs) for the wave energy converter. An investigation was carried out on current PTOs, and ideas were gathered for future power take-off designs. The wave energy converter exhibits a positive response to the waves. The experiments confirm that we are heading in the right direction with the model. Furthermore, there are many opportunities to further improve the model.
