Locks are an important part of port infrastructure in order to lead the height difference between different parts of the land and gives accessibility to other parts that will not be able to go without that. The surroundings of locks will endure elevated environmental effects due to its construction and its traffic. 

This paper will make an inventory of the most important sources of elevated environmental effects, and will give the consequences of locks. Also, taking advantage of being in Antwerp, we will particularly study the locks of the Port of Antwerp and its surroundings.
