TitleKan een oscillerende vleugel die verticaal onder de romp van een schip is geplaatst, voortstuwing creëren door middel van rolbeweging?
Les hydroptères peuvent-ils convertir l'énergie des vagues en propulsion de navire
Subject

Abstract
This research aims to investigate the feasibility, mechanisms, and efficiency of converting wave energy into propulsion, with a specific focus on its implementation within the FineShip project. This project aims to develop an innovative maritime propulsion system using a vertical foil deployed beneath the hull of a ship to generate propulsion. The primary objective is to achieve significant fuel savings and consequently promote environmental sustainability within the shipping sector, a crucial challenge in the 21st century.
The research concludes that it is indeed possible to generate propulsion using an oscillating foil. The findings indicate that the propulsion potential of such a wing is indeed significant. However, experiments and analyses have identified a limit to the speed at which an oscillating foil can provide positive propulsion. This limit is determined by various factors, including the hydrodynamic properties of the foil, wave conditions, and the energy efficiency of the propulsion system as a whole. The findings of this research provide valuable insights for further development and optimization of oscillating foil technologies for maritime propulsion applications. It also underscores the importance of ongoing innovation and research towards more sustainable and efficient solutions for the global shipping industry.
