Maritime students must master the IMDG Code to a level the STCW defines in terms of competence, not recall. Large language models can already answer questions about dangerous goods; however, answering is not teaching, and a chatbot that supplies the correct stowage segregation on demand may leave the underlying competence untouched. This thesis develops and evaluates an AI tutor (AI-MDG) for the Dangerous Goods course. The student will define what tutoring here means, build a working prototype on a curated corpus of course material and regulation, and test with a group of students whether measured understanding actually improves.
